The Spanish winery Terras Gauda gathers for the first time designers from 65 countries around the world in the Francisco Mantecón International Advertising Poster Competition. 1,890 posters have been entered in this 11th edition. All the works will be on exhibit at the Vigo Maritime Station (Galicia) November 21 - 28 and November 30 - December 12.

 

The panel of judges is scheduled to meet on November 29; this year, the panel includes designer Roberto Turegano as special professional guest. The panel of judges is presided over by José María Fonseca Maretón, President of the TERRAS GAUDA Group, and panel members include Ignacio López-Chaves, President of the Vigo Port Authority, Ana Diaz-Casariego, Art Director at Harper's Bazaar - Spain, Pilar Barreiro, widow of Francisco Mantecón, Enrique Costas Rodriguez, CEO of TERRAS GAUDA, Cristina Vergara Echarri, winner of the 10th edition, and Paulino Novo, as secretary. The panel’s decision will be made public at the awards ceremony, to be held on December 13.

 

Modern art museums, such as the Costa Rican Contemporary Art and Design Museum, and international institutions support the event, in which professional associations from around the world take part. Here are some examples: Australia (Design Institute); Austria (Design Austria), Indonesia (Desain Grafis Indonesia), Iceland (Hönnurmidstod Islands/Iceland Design Centre), Latin America (ALADI - Latin American Design Association), Russia (Plakat Msh / Moscow Artists’ Union).

 

Prestigious universities on five continents have also been involved in the 11th Francisco Mantecón competition: Ottawa University (Canada), San Francisco State University (USA); ESAD - École Supérieure d'Art et Design Saint-Étienne (France), Bezalel Academy of Arts And Design, Jerusalem (Israel), Universidad Di Venezia (Italy), Nairobi University (Kenya), University of the Arts - London (United Kingdom), National Chiao Tung University (Taiwan).

 

TERRAS GAUDA Wineries, which will award €16,000 in cash prizes, sponsors the Francisco Mantecón competition in collaboration with the Vigo Port Authority and with the support of the Regional Ministry of Culture, Education and University Planning through the General Secretariat for Culture.
